It was recently announced that the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have decided to penalize certain hospitals that carry high rates of infection and injuries. The Illinois hospitals that face being penalized are listed below.

The determination was based upon a scoring system and certain hospitals were excluded from the scoring. Excluded hospitals included critical access, long-term care, psychiatric, and rehabilitation hospitals. Some cancer facilities and children’s hospitals were also excluded.

When people go to a hospital for treatment or medical care, they certainly never expect that while there they may contract another disease, infection, or even suffer a new injury. But, this potential exists every time one enters such a facility. Doctors, nurses, and medical personnel are supposed to keep patients safe from such dangers and maintain a clean and healthy environment. If you or a loved one has been injured in any way as a result of a hospital or ER room visit, medical malpractice may have occurred.
